Sawai Madhopur Junction

The early history of Sawai Madhopur originated in Fort Ranthambore. The oldest settlement is near the fortress. According to popular belief, Ranthambore Fort was built by King Chauhan Rajput Spaldaksha in 944 AD, while according to another school, the fort was built by King Chauchan Jayant in 1110 AD. In the Middle Ages, the Ranthambore fort changed hands until the Mughal dynasty handed over the fort to Sawai Madho Singh, the ruler of Jaipur, in 1765. Sawai Madhopur is home to the famous Ranthambore National Park and one of the most popular destinations in Rajasthan. Sawai Madhopur is named after Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I of Jaipur himself during his reign in 1750-1768. The city of Sawai Madhopur is located between the Aravali and Vindhya mountains, in a landscape of hills and forests.
