The city of Mandawa became thikana in the middle of the 18th century. Someone mentioned earlier that Mandu Jat is the founder of Mandawa Village. Initially, this place was called "Mandu ki dhani", "Mandu ka bas" or "Manduwas", later changed to "Manduwa", "Mandwa", and finally "Mandawa".
Mandawa is a remote feudal principality located in the center of the Shekawati region. It was a trading post for ancient caravans passing through China and the Middle East. Thakur Nawal Singh, Rajput ruler of Nawalgarh and Mandawa, built a fort in 1755 to protect this outpost. The municipality that grew up around the fort soon attracted a large number of merchants to settle here. Mandawa was a trading post on the ancient caravan route, stopping here from China and the Middle East.

Accommodation & Hotels
Perhaps the best place to discover the legacy of Shekhawati is through the redefined history and luxury of Castle Mandawa, a fortress, now converted into a luxurious heritage hotel. It revives the whole idea of luxury in a royal yet contemporary elegance- Medieval turreted towers, palanquin-roofed balconies blend with modern comforts in old-world rooms. Family portraits, antique cannons and arms add to the charm of this family-run resort where tradition still runs strong. Even time is measured by a different clock- a huge brass gong struck by the resident timekeepers at the fort every hour.
